Self Discipline What Is It’s Value In Life?

Being Tempted to Live an Undisciplined Life

In today’s society, a world where temptations are everywhere is where we live in. To ensure that we never get bored, we have TV, video games, and sports. Are you surprised to know that people tend to struggle just to focus on their school work, their jobs, and relationships? After all, why should you do something which is boring or hard, when you can do something that’s easy and fun instead?

The reality is the fact that you don’t really have to do boring stuff and work hard because no one is forcing you to do that. However, it is very likely that your school grades, your job, or your relationships would suffer as a result if you choose not to do this.

Do you know why? Because often the things that require time, effort, and hard work are the things that are worth having in life and the things that have real long term value and meaning.

But if we live in a society that makes having fun so easy, how can we focus on obtaining the things that really matter in life, when temptations make it so easy to do otherwise?

The Importance of Self Discipline in Life

Self discipline would be the answer to this question. The ability to force yourself to do something that you know you must do, even if you don’t feel like it is called discipline. This also means that with discipline, a person is allowed to resist the temptation of video games, TV, and sports. They will then be able to concentrate on their jobs, schoolwork, and their relationships. The things that really matter and add value to your life.

But at the risk of sounding like a bore, I’m not really saying that discipline means you’re not allowed to have any fun in life at all. That would just be plain silly. There must be a balance because we all need time for fun and entertainment otherwise you will most likely fail to succeed in life. Self discipline is very important in life because of this very reason and this is especially true in today’s society which is constantly tempting us to choose the easy way out.

How to Develop Self Discipline

Eventually, the more you discipline yourself to resist succumbing to the temptations of life, the more your self discipline will strengthen even though practicing self discipline may require lots of hard work and a strong will to master. This in turn makes it easier to apply discipline in the future.

What this means is that self discipline is just like any other skill in life. It will be hard at first but the more you practice then the stronger and easier it will become. Having strong self discipline will give you an enormous advantage in life in a world that is made up of largely undisciplined and lazy people (especially those living in developed countries).
